Alexander A. Lawrence collection on Archibald Campbell, 1778.

This collection consists of three photocopied items concerning Archibald Campbell's expedition to Georgia in 1778. The first items is a letter appointing Campbell the leader of the Georgia expedition, dated New York, November 3, 1778. The letter was written by Frederick Howard, 5th Earl of Carlisle, Chief of a commission sent to America to settle disturbances, Sir Henry Clinton, Commander-in-Chief of British forces in North America, and William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland and a member of Carlisle's Commission. The last two items are returns of casualties suffered by Campbell's force and prisoners taken during his conquest of Savannah, dated December 29, 1778.
